Event Details
The Nicolaas Cleef-Huis is, according to Hennie Vos (Archaeologist), the late Dr ElZet Albertyn (Professional Heritage Practitioner) and Lize Malan (Heritage Consultant) the oldest residential structure on Stellenbosch. Dated 1680, the humble dwelling is sensitively restored and renewed. The Vrijburger Nicolas Cleef was the first owner. The humble dwelling faces north towards the Bloukliprivier. On the northern side of the house true to its heritage, is an endemic renosterveld garden. Lemon and lime trees were planted on the southern terraces.
Stroll through the garden and discover sculptures, from mainly local artists. Visitors will also have the opportunity to walk through the house with its unique collection of Africana and art – an added bonus.
Visitors will need a pin code, which will be supplied to pre-booked visitors, to enter the De Zalze Estate. When visitors arrive at the main entrance of De Zalze, they will receive a map and directions to the Nicolaas Cleef-Huis.
