I started changing my garden to be more indigenous, waterwise and sustainable a couple of years ago by ripping out most of our lawn. It was a very low cost ‘exercise’ by planting and filling the open spaces with numerous succulent “steggies” and cuttings of various plants that I had or collected from all over. Water was scarce (and still is), and those cuttings that survived and thrived, were then again multiplied. As seasons passed I added some fynbos and other various plants. At the back of the house is more of the same, some citrus trees and a vegetable garden (raised beds).
